Shirley is a member of California Society of CPAs. She is a graduate of State University of CA with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s of Taxation from Golden Gate University. Shirley speaks Cantonese and Mandarin fluently.

Austin has been with Smith and Company since 2019 and has worked in public accounting since 2012. He specializes in optimizing tax strategy for closely held businesses and their owners with over a decade of experience in corporate and partnership taxation.
He holds Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from San Diego State University. He maintains CPA licenses in California and Arizona and is licensed to file taxes in all 50 states.
As a Bay Area native and an avid outdoorsman, Austin enjoys surfing, mountain biking, and snowboarding.


Ceci Van Voorhees has over 10 years’ experience in Tax, working with individuals, businesses, nonprofits, trusts and estates.
Ceci is a Veteran of the US Army with 12 years’ experience as a Korean Linguist as well as a Finance Officer. She is a graduate of the University of San Francisco with a bachelor’s degree in business and international studies and received a certificate of accountancy with an emphasis as controller from UC Berkeley.
Ceci has lived in the bay area over 30 years and enjoy spending time with family, outdoors hiking, and gardening.


EDUCATION Lawrence Smith earned his BS degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis on finance and accounting, at the University of California, Berkeley in 1985. EXPERIENCE Lawrence is well versed in helping individuals and small to mid-sized businesses within various industries, including real estate, manufacturing, retail, importing, education and transportation services. He provides tax planning and compliance, financial planning, litigation support, and resolution of IRS conflicts. Lawrence also performs audits, reviews, and compilation services for clients. For over 30 years, Lawrence has carried on a proud family tradition of accountancy. He began his career at Arthur Anderson and Company and formed Smith and Company in 1989. PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS AND ACTIVITIES Lawrence is a member of the California State Board of Accountancy, California Society of Certified Public Accountants, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Board of Directors and treasurer for the Center for Environmental Health, Sustainable Silicon Valley, and Pathways for Kids. Lawrence's personal interests include his family, travel, golfing, basketball, mountain biking and coaching all his children’s sports teams.
Eli has been with Smith and Company since 2007 and focuses on tax compliance for individuals and businesses. His areas of expertise include small business, real estate partnerships, 1031 exchanges, and multi-state taxation. He holds a Master’s degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University and a BA in International Relations from SF State University. He is currently pursuing his CPA license. A Bay Area/Marin County native, Eli enjoys spending time outdoors BBQing, hiking, and swimming in the ocean.
Erica joined Smith and Company in 2010 and has since become a cornerstone of the firm. She obtained her CPA license in 2016. Having “worn many hats” throughout her tenure, she possesses a comprehensive understanding of the firm’s operations and diverse client needs. Erica holds a Bachelor of Science from Sonoma State University, and is proud to serve the community where she was born and raised. One of Erica’s favorite attributes about her work is finding ways to help empower the next generation through financial literacy. Part of her professional philosophy is rooted in the belief that accounting is about more than just numbers; it’s about people and their legacies. She specializes in long-term strategic planning and takes a unique interest in finding ways to envelop her clients’ children to educate them about the fundamentals of finance and taxes. By artfully demystifying complex tax returns, she ensures her clients feel confident and informed about their financial futures. When not at work navigating the nuances of tax, Erica stays wonderfully busy raising her three children in the heart of Sonoma County, working to instill in them the same local pride she brings to work each day.
Marina McKenna joined Smith & Company in February 2017. Marina is a certified tax preparer with more than 15 years of experience in accounting, management and payroll reporting. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a QuickBooks Pro-Advisor. She holds a Master’s Degree in Business and a BS in Accounting with a concentration in tax, earned while also raising two kids and volunteering as the Treasurer for the local PTA. Marina speaks Russian fluently.
Debbie, who began consulting with Smith Tax Co in 2026, is a licensed CPA with more than four decades of professional tax experience spanning local and national firms as well as independent practice. Her wide-ranging background gives her a strong understanding of the challenges and rewards of starting and operating diverse businesses, and she enjoys working with them towards success. Known for deep technical expertise and practical leadership, Debbie is the firm’s primary resource for complex tax questions. Her work includes identifying and developing tax-planning opportunities, authoring thorough research and tax-opinion letters, and negotiating favorable outcomes with the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board in audits and issues. A published contributor to the Marin Independent Journal and the San Francisco Chronicle, she has also been the primary author of Smith Tax Co.’s newsletters. Debbie’s academic credentials include an M.S. in Taxation from Golden Gate University and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Washington. A Bay Area native who values close access to the ocean and nature, Debbie is married and the proud mother of two grown and flown children.
